It's not my forte.
I usually just go for cheap and comfortable. I like shopping for clothes at thrift stores. Trendiness kinda scares me. In fact, I want to hyperventilate any time I walk into a Forever 21. True story.
There are trends out there that I find both cute and scary. Cute as in "Aww that looks cute!" And scary as in: "I can't buy that, there's no way I can pull that off!"
Like rompers:

And pleated shorts:

And tribal geo patterns:

And bold floral designs:

My problem is, once I warm up to something, it's just about on its' way out! But I had a bit of a realization on Sunday. I wanted to wear a large triple rosette headband I had made a while back from a tutorial. [I made it, thought "so cute!" then got too chicken to wear it.]
I debated for awhile and then thought: "Act like you can pull it off, and you will!"
So I stood up a little straighter, put a big smile on my face, and I pulled it off.
No one else at church was wearing a rosette headband. But I looked cute. Really cute!
I'm linking up with Casey today!
I'm right there with you about fashion! I'm always worried I can't pull this, that or the other off... The funny part is though I am one of those that can give advice but not take it. I have always had friends ask my advice! Oh well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog I hope you come back :)
haha..girl, I so get this, especially the headband dealy. About 3 weeks ago, I did the same thing_ mustered up the courage to wear a headband to church, and a nice lady came up to me and said "that's really cute but that hasn't made it down here yet"..haha, oh well.:)
ReplyDeleteI'm in the same spot as you...rompers!? Yes. They remind me of things my mother forces me to wear when I was a kid!
ReplyDeleteI am so the same as you when it comes to trends. I feel like fashion-speaking, I am way too conservative. I always get chicken and don't wear stuff. I bought these cute rose pins to wear in my hair and still haven't worn them. They aren't "safe" enough.
ReplyDeleteI loved this post!!! I feel the same way, I like bold things, but always have second thoughts when it's time to wear them!!! Thanks for stopping by my little blog, girl!!!! Following ya =)!!!!

Good for you with the headband! Nothing wrong with fashionable accessories.
ReplyDeleteI always used to seem to be a step ahead of fashion... which made me out of fashion. Haha. I'm with you on the cheap and comfortable. But about rompers - always scary. They bring them out every couple of years, and they never go over well.
Love that top romper and your headband...way cute! I'm a color girl, tend to like and wear the bright and kinda different stuff. I already have bright red hair so wearing bright clothes just seems to fit! I say if I like it, and I think it works...it does!!
ReplyDeleteGood for you...I bet you looked adorable with the headband on!!
I'm with you on the rompers and the tribal prints...no way. Good for you for wearing that headband - very cute!
ReplyDeleteGood for you! I think it is just about what you think is cute and wearing it and having confidence that you think it is cute! Then all the other girls will think it is cute! :) But you are not alone, I am pretty sure most women feel the same way!
ReplyDeleteI am exactly like you when it comes to trends! I am always too scared I am going to look like a big goof! But confidence is all it takes to pull off anything! www.samandlaurenbattershell.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI have been thinking about this post of yours since I read it a few days ago. I am so proud of and inspired by you! I used to be so much more adventurous in my dressing. I'm having to get more creative because of my lack of clothing options, but I don't always feel very confident about it. I love all your choices! First it's the headband, next...rompers and pleated shorts! Oh, do you have a link for the headband tutorial? Thanks!
