A Teacher's Summer Vacation

Friends, today the countdown to the end of the school year is officially OVER! The kids' last day was yesterday and today our staff "meeting" is going to be at Speedzone!

This means that my summer vacation is officially here! (Well, at least until the baby comes-ha!)

Humorous Pictures

Have you ever wondered what it's like for a teacher on summer break?

It's best to think of it as a weekend:

The first month is like Friday night: you're ready to PART -TAY! You stay up late, you meet up with friends, you go out on the town, you yell Woo Hoo a lot, and have a general disregard for the future. You can still taste the sweet flavors of freedom.

The second month is Saturday. On Saturday, you sleep in late (of course!) but you end up getting out of your pajamas around noon to run some errands. You might clean the house, or work on that project you've been putting off.

The last few weeks is Sunday. Sure, you're technically still off of work, but Monday is looming a little too close in the horizon. On Sunday you might start to panic. You might finish that report that you were supposed to write, or get to those emails you were supposed to have dealt with on Friday. You may not enjoy your day very much because you're thinking about how awesome Friday and Saturday were and how LONG you will have to wait until the next weekend.

Of course, this is all going to play out differently this year with Baby Boy arriving in just four short weeks!!

  1. I love the analogy of a weekend :) enjoy your summer! and I know the next few weeks will be busy getting ready for the baby!

  2. Happy summer!

Oh, and I like your weekend analogy. Except mine tends to be reversed, going Sunday-Friday.

Except this summer- my baby's coming very soon too!

  3. Fun! I still have a couple weeks to go - you're out early!!

  4. UGh, I always hate that analogy. I used to leave school and not even think about August but these days, I know it's just around the corner. And this year, we have to go back August 28th and I am so very insulted, I can't even talk about it. We have never had to go back before Sept 1, it was in our contracts, and now we have 3 professional days before school starts for next year. This is a big infringement on my summer and I am not happy about it! Oh, and I'm still here until June 22!

  5. haha! Enjoy your 'weekend' Sarah!!! :)

  6. Well, I hope you enjoy every minute of it! I watch my mom spend her "weekend" that way every year. It seems like summer vacation just keeps getting shorter and shorter for those who work in schools.

  7. i love this description, although I pack that all into the 2 weeks I have off before summer school begins! happy vacationing!

  8. hey Lucky you!!!!!!
    Enjoy your summer vacation!!!!!

  9. Hahah love the analogy! I'm studying education so that's good to hear about all the aspects. I showed the sweet elephant picture to my family and they all cracked up! Love this sweet post. :)

  10. your analogy is EXACTLY how I felt when I was a teacher! I hope you enjoy your summer vacation!! So great that you don't have to think about school {at least at first} while you are home with your little man!

  11. I am about to have my first summer as a teacher, thanks for the head-up on how it is. :)

    Also. LOVE your blog!
