The Mama Club

I'm 29 years old. I've been married for just about nine years. And I am not part of the Mama club.

We haven't started trying yet... we're waiting for my husband to get his PhD so that I can have the option to be a stay-at-home mom.

And honestly, we're enjoying our life right now when we can take off at a moment's notice, get lots of uninterrupted sleep, and keep our bank accounts fairly full...

But lots of my close friends have babies, and when I'm with them, I feel like I'm in a foreign country. I can't take part in the conversation about poopy diapers, birthing stories, and developmental milestones. I love hearing about all that stuff, but at the same time it sounds like a fascinating foreign language. I want to join in but it's tricky because I don't know all the words.

The closest I've come is having an adorable nephew:

So until it's my turn to join the Mama Club, I'll be the super fun Aunt :)

(I'm linking up with Casey today!)

  2. You'll be one of the best mamas in the club! I'm coming up on 28, and most of my friends have babies. I don't want any kids, though, and I never have (very well known fact). My problem is that people are treating me different as if this is news to them. :(

  3. I completely understand what you feel. I am also 29 & not near my baby-making time yet. The boy and I want to be a bit more stable & such. & with all our friends with babies (one just had twins)it can certainly be overwhelming. But, I sure love being a super aunt too.

When you do get there, I am sure you will be one awesome mom as well. :) thanks for sharing this.

  5. This is where we're at, too. Our entire small group, all my coworkers, all my siblings, most of our married friends...seems like everyone [except us] is in the baby phase. It's weird not being in the club intentionally, yet desiring someday to join them. Keep soaking up that couple time! It's a precious commodity. :-)

  13. I have been married nearly four years and we have no kids. I'm 27. We love our life and are completely comfortable, but are always being asked about kiddos. No one can really understand, and I know you will be a super mom when the time comes! For now, we can enjoy our married lives the way they are. :)
